No Kings Day Protests in Torrington, CT
June 14th, 2025 by Owen
For Flag day this year, President Trump decided to throw a parade to flex American Imperialism. It also just so happened to be Trump 79th birthday. Trump had been talked out of this event in the past, as it was deemed too expensive. But this year Trump, fueled by his victory in 2024 and his egotistical vision to celebrate his 79th birthday, decided to go ahead with this event.
In retaliation to this, protests coined “No Kings Day” were planned all over the United States. The name comes from a White House release back in February that displays a picture of Trump toting a crown in front of the New York City skyline and the statement “long live the king”. Historically, American’s do not like kings. And it was apparent this sentiment still exists as masses of people gathered to protest across the United States. Connecticut alone had over 30 protests. One of these protests took place in Torrington. One would think Torrington would bring out some of the Trump supporters seeing as it is smack dab in the middle of Connecticut’s reddest counties. However, there were only a handle full of them who were quickly overtaken on both sides by anti-Trump protesters. When asked if they felt out numbered, a woman quickly proclaimed “not at all”. It was very clear, however, they were greatly outnumbered, at least 100 to 1.

One of the anti-Trump protester toted a sign that said “No dictators - 4th amendment”. The man behind the sign was an older gentleman name Leigh. He was standing away from the rest of the crowd and when ask why he was standing alone, Leigh stated he was “covering this part of the street”. Leigh was excited to be there. He had never been to a protest before. “This guy is trying to take over the country. For no reason other than to satisfy his ego. I don’t see why the people who are following him are following him. But they seem just downright evil.” Leigh said. “We gotta get back to humanity. For these thugs to being going out and ripping people away from their families, without any due process-“. Before he could finish his thought it became clear Leighs strategy of covering more ground was effective.
Out of nowhere a beige colored Plymouth wagon, sporting a “Trump 2024 Take America Back Again” flag, came rolling down the street Leigh was standing on. They instantly locked on to Leigh. It was almost as if they knew each other. The driver of the vehicle shouted at Leigh and Leigh was not afraid to express his distaste for these Trump supporters. They drove away and Leigh got back to his point.

“We’re living in a capitalist society and nobody has any capital.” He expressed several times that it is up to the younger generations to stand up to this administration. “It’s up to you guys, your generation. I am sorry but it is. We screwed up so bad for your generation. We just let it happen. There is so much greed in the government and it is just wrong. There is no humanity, what soever in this administration. And I don’t see why the people who are following him are following him. But they seem just downright evil. And they are using the law as a cover, as an excuse.”
